SHELTON — Heavy hearts Sunday night at Shelton High School, where a community came together to remember 15-year-old Kristjan Ndoj, the Shelton teenager who was gunned down March 15.

More than a week after the shooting many questions still remain about what happened the night he was shot.

The school system hosted a community gathering in memory of Ndoj at Shelton High School. The Ndoj family, including Kristjan’s older brother who attends Shelton High, was in attendance.

One Shelton High student tweeted, “SHS held a beautiful service. My heart goes out to Kristjan’s family and friends. Tears were brought to my eyes.”

Kristjan Ndoj died at Bridgeport Hospital Thursday from his injuries. He suffered gunshot wounds to the head and leg March 15 on Agawam Trail, a street on the outskirts of town.

“He was very nice, very polite.  He was a smart 15-year-old. He controlled the whole household and would do all the paperwork, the only one in the house who spoke English,” said Phil Thomopoulos, a Shelton resident who knew Kristjan through his son.

Kristjan was described by his family as a bright boy, and naturally gifted athlete, who seemed wise beyond his years.

The death has been tough for many students, including Niko Thomopoulos, who was supposed to spend time with Kristjan the weekend he was shot.

“He asked me to hang out that weekend. I was going to hang out with him, but I had to go to my grandma’s birthday party. I’m not saying I’m glad I didn’t go, but wish we hung out more,” said Niko Thomopoulos.

Many in the community are still wondering why Ndoj was killed.  Police are still investigating what happened that night he was shot.

“The whys are killing us in Shelton,” said Phil Thomopoulos.

Police continue to investigate the shooting and ask that anyone with information call 203-924-1544. Callers can remain anonymous, police said.

An online fundraising page was set up to assist Kristjan Ndoj’s family with hospital bills and funeral costs, and it has generated more than $23,000 in donations, far surpassing the original goal of $5,000. If you would like to help, click here to visit the website.
