MIDDLETOWN — The state’s new public safety commissioner is set to make an announcement Monday morning regarding staffing at state police barracks.

It’s unclear what exactly will be announced today, but Dora Schriro, the newly appointed commissioner, suspended efforts to consolidate dispatch centers until she had more time to review a plan that her predecessor put into play.

The state police dispatch center merger plan was undertaken last year, aimed at cutting dispatch centers from 12  down to five. Opposition to the plan was widespread, with critics saying removing dispatch centers could lead to increased response times and troops being closed to walk-in complainants during normal business hours.

Schriro is scheduled to make her announcement at the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection in Middletown at 11 a.m.
