More than 10,000 firefighters and first responders flooded Watertown, Ma. for the funeral of fallen firefighter Lt. Edward J. Walsh, Wednesday. The 43-year-old was killed in a massive 9 alarm blaze in Boston’s Back Bay last week.

Walsh, or “Eddie” as his family called him, leaves behind a wife, Kristen, and three children all under the age of 10. Speakers at the Mass held at St. Patricks Church referred to him as a hero and a family man.

“He was proud to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a firefighter. But he was prouder to be a husband and a father. He loved his family and spoke with them often. He told his friends all about coaching his children’s’ football, baseball, and soccer teams,” Richard Paris of Boston Firefighters Local 718 said.

Walsh died alongside 33-year-old firefighter Mike Kennedy. Kennedy’s funeral will be held Thursday in West Roxbury, Ma.
