GLASTONBURY — A woman who saw a stranger in her house when she pulled in the driveway this week gave police information that helped them arrest him, police said Wednesday.

William Y. Ross, 29, of Andrews Avenue in Naugatuck, was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny, police said.

He was in custody Wednesday morning on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Manchester later in the day.

Ross is on probation for six burglaries, police said.

According to police, the burglary happened on Redwood Lane about 12:40 p.m. Monday. The woman pulled in her driveway and saw a black Dodge parked outside and a man she didn’t recognize inside, they said.

She didn’t get out of her car and called police immediately, Agent James Kennedy said. The resident gave police a description of the man and the car, including its license plate number.

Ross fled the scene, Kennedy said, but police had enough information to catch up with him later.

“She was very good,” he said. “She was very descriptive.”

Police served him with a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday, he said.
