BRANFORD — A 93-year-old woman was attacked and seriously injured by a pit bull mix that escaped from its owner’s home on Sunday afternoon.
The woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries to her lower left leg.
Police said neighbors called 911 around 2 p.m. to report the attack. The dog attacked the woman as she walked near the intersection of Harbor Street and McKinnel Court, police said.
Several neighbors tried fighting off the dog using the woman’s cane and a baseball bat until the dog’s owner arrived to cage the animal, police said.
Animal Control officers quarantined the pit bull at the Branford Animal Shelter while police investigate the incident.
