Hartford Pitcher Drawing Major League Notice

University of Hartford junior pitcher Sean Newcomb is filling the seats with as many pro scouts as Hawks faithful. The left-handed ace is considered to be a top 50 prospect in this summer’s Major League Baseball draft, and with consistent 90-plus mph and the occasional triple digit fastballs, it’s no wonder. Head coach Justin Blood, who is also the pitching coach, is just as impressed with Newcomb’s mental maturity as with his physical progress, and it’s that attitude that the coach thinks will help him succeed at the next level.

Newcomb, a junior from Middleborough, Mass., threw 102 pitches, walked four and struck out seven over seven innings in the first game of an America East doubleheader sweep of Albany on Saturday.
