Tom Degnan, an arborist from Burns and McDonnell, talks about Arbor Day.

The very first Arbor Day celebration took place in 1872 in Nebraska.  It was then proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing the awareness and importance of trees. Arbor Day has been celebrated in Connecticut since 1887—that means this is the 127th Anniversary of Arbor Day in the State.
