Maren Sanchez was pictured on Facebook in her prom dress, but the junior at Jonathan Law High School in Milford never got to attend the prom.

Friday morning, at 7:14, Milford Police received a 911 call following a stabbing in a school hallway that left Sanchez, 16, dead, after suffering wounds to her face, neck and chest.

School personnel quickly apprehended a 16 year old male, also a junior at the school, who students say is the former boyfriend of Sanchez.

The suspect was charged as a juvenile offender with murder. His identity has not been released because he is a minor. He is scheduled to be arraigned in juvenile court in New Haven Monday.

Students and teachers were told to shelter in their classrooms before police gave the all clear around 9am, when students were sent home for the day.

Students say this was a premeditated attack after the suspect became jealous over the fact that Sanchez was dating someone else. Police would not confirm this was a factor in the stabbing. Investigators recovered a knife at the scene.

The school’s junior prom, scheduled for this evening, was postponed. The Superintendent of Schools, Betty Feser, says it will be rescheduled.

Counseling services are being made available to Jonathan Law students at the school throughout the weekend. And school is scheduled to be back in session Monday morning.
