A Hartford based trash and recycling company apparently cleans up well, very well. They have just been honored with a safety award,  one of their own has been named “Trash Truck Driver of the Year.”

Andrew Czekaj won the honor for driving safely for six years in a row. Czekaj drives for All Waste, Inc., who  submitted his name in the waste and recycling industry association’s safe driver competition during the fall. Andrew was one of nine drivers recognized nationwide for  having a “spotless” record. Czekai, a native of Poland, said “I was very surprised.”

Czekai and All Waste Inc.’s managers were honored last week at the National Waste and Recycling Associations national conference in Atlanta.

Matt Slowik, All Waste’s safety and compliance manager, said, “908 total candidates, and Andrew was one of 36 finalists… and he was the final pick for a medium sized company, so it’s a huge honor.”

Andrew drives a 53 thousand pound bright orange garbage truck on routes in Avon, Glastonbury, Simsbury, New Britain, and West Hartford. For his efforts, Czekai won a thousand dollars, a plaque, and, of course, bragging rights.
