Last call has come and gone for the Metro-North bar car. On Friday, the final booze cruise left Grand Central Terminal around 7:34 p.m.
Starting in the 1970s, the Metro-North rail line had 10 different bar cars, serving up brews over the tracks to busy commuters. That number has dwindled to just four bar cars. Slowly, the cars became extinct, unable to fit with a newer train model.
As the last bar car pulled through Stamford, riders celebrated and shared fond memories.
“I’ve been here almost 10 years. This makes the commute worthwhile. I spend 2 and a half hours just going into work,” One commuter said.
