One day after bullets pierced a wall at SAND Elementary School in Hartford’s North End, concerned citizens and activists called for a public meeting to discuss issues surrounding school safety in the Capitol City.

“I’m really just tired of you know, children getting hurt out here. These are our children,” Hartford resident Rose Greene said.

No one was hurt in the SAND incident. Just a week prior, a 16-year-old student was stabbed by another boy outside Bulkeley High School, police reported.

“I think the community needs to come out and take a stand. If we don’t do it now, it’s going to get worse,” activist Brother Carl Hardrick said.

The public meeting will take place on May 29 at 6pm at 2550 Main Street in Hartford.
