TORRINGTON — Officials investigating an overnight fire at a trucking company have ruled out arson, the fire chief said Tuesday morning.

“It doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” Chief Gary Brunoli said.

No one was injured in the fire at Mountain Top Trucking, 50 Lincoln Ave. The fire started about 3:30 a.m., when neighbors were jarred awake from explosions.

Two tri axle dump trucks were fully engulfed in flames, and a third one started burning as well, the chief said.

The fire was knocked down quickly, within 20 minutes, Brunoli said. It was completely extinguished a short time later.

“Most of the explosions are from the tires — the air in the tires — exploding from the heat,” Brunoli said.

The trucks were parked about five feet apart, so the flames were able to spread from one to the other.

Representatives of the fire marshal’s office are investigating the cause.
