A pedestrian was struck and killed on I-84 in West Hartford after exiting his vehicle and walking on the eastbound side of the highway, according to police.
Police said Veto Bonan, 28 of Vernon, was driving westbound near exit 41 and crossed over the grassy median onto the eastbound lanes of traffic at approximately 5:45 a.m. Bonan’s vehicle came to an “uncontrolled final rest position” in bushes near exit 41 eastbound.
Bonan then exited his vehicle and was struck and killed by oncoming traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident shut down all lanes of I-84 east in the area for four hours Saturday morning. The incident also led police to shut down the left lane of I-84 West.
Police have notified next of kin, and the accident remains under investigation.
