A crowd divided, New York fans and Boston fans. It’s what you would expect from a Connecticut crowd. But there on the stage at the University of Hartford’s graduation was Joe Torre, the man who led the Yankees to four World Series championships. He was the commencement speaker at this ceremony.

Fox CT got a sit-down with Torre, who told the graduates to find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.

“If you are looking at the clock, that’s a job that’s not for me,” he said. “Be passionate about your work.”

Torre will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this summer, so many look up to him. Who does he look up to?

“My brother Frank. He was really tough on me as a kid,” Torre said. “George Steinbrener, because he wanted to win and so did I. We wanted the same things, and I appreciated that.”

Steinbrener was Torre’s boss. On the subject of tough bosses, what advice would Torre give to a recent grad?

” ‘Dealing’ with a boss, that’s exactly right,” he said. “I was sometimes accused of ‘handling’ my boss, but you ‘deal’ with them and don’t waste time lamenting what he does. Just learn from it.”

Rules for winning, from the man who literally wrote the book on it.
