New Haven police are renewing a pledge to save lives by enforcing seat belt laws, and they will be out checking drivers around the clock.

According to the Department of Transportation, more than 22,000 people were killed in motor vehicle crashed in 2010, and 51 percent of those killed were not wearing seat belts. From now until June 1, expect to see more officers out enforcing the state’s seat belt laws.

It can make a significant difference – in 2010 approximately 12,500 people were saved because of their seat belt.
