Lawsuits involving UConn’s Law Library have been settled.

The university and about 24 building contractors agreed to a $12 million settlement, stemming from flawed construction of the library. Not long after the library opened in 1996, there were significant leaks in the walls creating mold. There were also some major structural issues, but the builders refused to fix the problems.

In 2008, the university, with the State Attorney General’s Office, sued to recoup the $18 million the state spent on repairs.

It’s taken until now to settle.

“This sends an important message from the University Of Connecticut, that the university makes sure that the taxpayers get fair treatment from our contractors when we hire them to do good work for us,” UConn Law Dean Timothy Fisher said.
