On Memorial Day weekend, many will celebrate our nation’s freedom with BBQ’s and parades.  Thursday afternoon, 30 people honored America by joining her ranks.

Mario Arbelaez came to the United States 15 years ago, from Columbia.

“This is my goal,” says Arbelaez, “To be a citizen of the United States, that would be my goal.”

Thursday afternoon, in Fairfield, U.S. District Judge Stefan Underhill administered the Oath of Allegiance to Arbelaez, and 29 other new citizens.

“We the people of the United States, what we’re doing today is creating, if you will, 30 more people of the United States,” says Underhill.

With his goal achieved, Mario Arbelaez is jubuliant.  “I have my citizenship and I’m really happy,” says Arbelaez.  “God bless America and God bless everyone.”
