Residents in Glastonbury continued their crusade against a proposed housing project Tuesday night.

They showed up to a public hearing before the town council, along with a number of the project’s developers.

The idea is to replace an old cigar warehouse on Hubbard Street with an apartment complex. A faction of townspeople aren’t jazzed by the size of the proposal, called Warehouse 38 on the Green. It’d span an acre with 40 units and parking.

Alexandrina Sergio said the project is too big and “overdeveloped” for its location. The site sits across from Glastonbury’s historic Hubbard Green.

Opponents, including Sergio, also feel the project would cause quality of life issues because of perceived traffic congestion and parking issues.

Lawyers for the developer say they’ve made many concessions: adjusting parking space size, trash pick-up location and security lighting, for example.

Not everyone is complaining.

Michael Vitale is excited about the prospect of new neighbors and employees. The small business owner says he’s looking for to recruiting young professionals to work for him and to make his community thrive.

Warehouse 38 on the Green already has the okay of the town’s planning and zoning commission but the final decision rests with the town council. Members are expected to vote on this summer.
