Battered and bruised, a suspected armed robber landed in jail and police said the man who put him there was an intended victim.

Joey Furnari, 27, was just opening up his jewelry store at Enfield Square Mall Sunday morning when he said Jeffrey Hluchnik, 42, came in demanding gold and diamonds.

Furnari said Hluchnik showed a gun in his waistband.

While the suspect was staring at the diamonds in a glass display case, Furnari said he cracked him in the jaw and then beat him into submission until police came.

“We work hard for this and in a moment he wanted to take it away from us, and you know what, I wasn’t going to let him do it,” Furnari said.

Enfield police said the gun in the holdup turned out to be a pellet gun.

Police claimed that after his arrest, Hluchnik admitted to committing nine other armed robberies in Enfield, Suffield and East Windsor.
