Hartford remained mum about reports that the city is trying to woo the Rock Cats away from New Britain.

Our partners at the Courant reported that two city of Hartford officials confirm a tentative deal to bring the Rock Cats to the “Capital City” is on deck.

Although the mayor refused to comment on that, State Senator John Fonfara, who represents Hartford, admitted that he was at a discussion a few weeks ago, involving the mayor’s chief of staff, about building a new stadium and getting the minor league team to play there.

New Britain’s mayor said the Rock Cats’ GM assured her that the team is staying put.

“I really find it hard to believe that they would make decisions like this and not include me in on the conversation, it would be very disingenuous of them to do that,” Mayor Erin Stewart (R) said.  “I think that I’ve had a great working relationship with them thus far and I just can’t see that as a possibility.”

Hartford’s city council president, Shawn Wooden, claimed he expects to learn more within the next 24 to 48 hours about any kind of deal to get the Rock Cats.
