Before any lease is signed and agreements are made between the Rock Cats and Hartford, the city council has to make approvals.

Those approvals will hopefully be done tonight when the city council meets. The new Rock Cats stadium would require realigning four streets, buying more property downtown for $1.78  million and allowing officials to issue bonds for up to $60 million.

Documents show that Hartford would enter a 25-year-long lease with Rock Cats owners. The Rock Cats would pay Hartford $500,000 a year for the first 15 years of the lease and $600,000 in the years following. Right now, the team is in a $110,000 a year lease with New Britain until 2015.

So today, Mayor Pedro Segarra and his council is expected to say yes to the proposed plans and move forward. The new stadium is expected to be ready for opening day 2016.
