Sometimes you’re lucky … and sometimes you’re not. That’s the nature of fishing. But plenty of folks are finding success with Housatonic River Outfitters in Cornwall.
“It’s literally prime time right now,” says store manager Torrey Collins, explaining that the water was recently stocked with trout. “That long, cold winter delayed everything. And we’ve also had a fair amount of high water, but now everything is all lined up — boom.”
Hire a guide and take a boat, or don waders and give fly fishing a go in a 10-mile stretch of the river used for catch and release.
“You”re a little more one-on-one with the fish. You can get pretty close to the fish, usually, and you’re in their element,” says Collins, noting it’s best to cast a line in the morning or evening.
The scenery is spectacular. The sport, undeniably relaxing. ”
When I go fishing, no matter what’s going on in my life, no matter what my stress level is, it’s pretty rare that I think about anything,” says Collins.
