This morning The Boston Globe reported that Boston made the short list of U.S. cities vying to host the 2024 Olympics.
Multiple sources in Mayor Marty Welsh’s office said the city has not yet been notified by the United States Olympic Committee of this development. Other cities rumored to still be in consideration include Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington D.C.
Earlier this year Massachussetts Gov. Deval Patrick created a Special Commission Relative to the Feasibility of Hosting the Summer Olympics in the Commonwealth. The committee found that though some hurdles–such as transportation capacity–need to be overcome to make a successful bid that overall the city is well prepared to host such an event.
An announcement regarding the official short list is expected shortly.
