FOX CT’s Mike Magnoli was live in New London on Sunday morning for a historic voyage for the Charles W. Morgan whaleship.
The Morgan was all but abandoned in 1921. After 80 years of near continuous circumnavigation, of chasing whales into the world’s most remote corners, Morgan was a derelict, lying on her beam ends against a mud bank in southeastern Massachusetts.
But after years of restoration work, the ship set sail from New London for Newport on Sunday morning, the first leg of a tour of historic New England whaling ports. The Morgan arrived in Newport around 5 p.m. Sunday.
