City leaders and volunteers in New Haven are canvassing the streets in an effort to reach at-risk youth this summer.

The canvassers will offer all types of programs, from free summer meals to gun buyback programs and summer camp. They want kids to know they have an opportunity to have a productive, positive summer.

The two recently announced gun buyback programs will allow people to hand over weapons–no questions asked–for gift-cards worth up to $150. The programs are being funded by Yale New Haven Hospital. Both buyback programs will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and here is the location information:

June 28 at the New Haven Police Academy, located at 710 Sherman Ave.
July 12 at Radio Amor, located at 261 Portsea Street.

The community canvassing kicked off today at Wexler Grant School Library, located at 55 Foote Street in New Haven.
