If you have to travel on Connecticut’s highways this weekend, avoid I 84 passing through Southington, until Monday morning.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday night and extending until 5 a.m. Monday morning, the Connecticut Department of Transportation is replacing two I-84 bridges that pass over the Marion Avenue, which is Exit 30.
The DOT is using what’s known as the ABC method to replace these two overpasses. ABC being an acronym for accelerated bridge construction.
Essentially, they’re going to cut out the two sections of each overpass that need to be replaced and then roll a pre-fabricated new section into place.
Marion Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning at 5 PM Friday and will not be read opened until 5 AM Monday.
The DOT is suggesting use of Rt 9, Rt 72, I-91 and I-691 to circumvent what are sure to be heavy traffic delays.
