MIDDLEBURY — A ferocious fire destroyed a a 10,700 square foot home on Breakneck Hill Road on Thursday night, drawing firefighters from several Litchfield and Fairfield county towns.

The fire at 725 Breakneck Hill Road was reported about 4:45 p.m., and went to a third alarm.

There are no water mains in that section of Middlebury, so about two dozen water tankers were called in from both counties to provide water for the firefighting effort.

According to Middlebury land records, the home is owned by Lawrence and Wendy Janesky. They bought it in 2007 for $5.37 million. The town appraised the house at $2.95 million in 2013.

Janesky is the owner of Larry Janesky’s Connecticut Basement Systems of Derby, and several other companies.
