Predictions of wicked weather have caused Connecticut cities and towns to postpone their fireworks, some with little concern for moving back their celebrations a day or two.

In Middletown, Mayor Daniel Drew made the decision to postpone the show from Thursday to Saturday. The city has a rain date built in toits contract with the fireworks company, Drew said.

New Britain Parks and Recreation Director, Bill DeMaio, said that the city’s fireworks and festival will move from Independence Day to Saturday which will take a full team effort.

“We need the police department’s cooperation. We need the fire department’s cooperation. Public works, traffic, parks division,” DeMaio said.

However, the change likely will not cost the city anything because city employees will no longer receive double time from the holiday.

“In this particular case, going from Friday to Saturday, that’s perfect for us. We don’t think we’re going to hurt our crowd at all.”
