Severe thunderstorms passed through most of Connecticut on Thursday evening.
Storm warnings were issued in Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, Windham, Tolland, Fairfield and New Haven counties, and flash flood warnings were issued for Hartford, Litchfield and Fairfield counties.
A stalled cold front across the Hudson Valley that induced thunderstorm development across the Northeast with the heavy downpours, gusty winds and vivid lightning will slowly move across Connecticut and also serve as a mechanism for tropical moisture to move north along the front Friday, making for a Fourth of July washout this year. Though Arthur will miss the Connecticut and stay well offshore, heavy rain will drench the region with upwards of 1”-2” by Friday evening.
Dry High Pressure over the Midwest will dominate our weather for the rest of the holiday weekend with plenty of sunshine, low humidity and clear comfortable nights. Daytime high temperatures will average in the low 80s, while overnight lows will average in the comfortable 50s, making for great sleeping weather. High pressure will slowly drift off the Mid-Atlantic Coast early next week as a southwest flow will develop around the backside of the high that will transport the heat and high humidity back into the northeast as temperatures will warm up to near 90.
