The Connecticut State Police released statistics on the number of accidents and tickets that were issued this July Fourth weekend.
The statistics cover the holiday weekend, which started July 3 at 12:01 a.m. and ended at midnight on July 6.
There were 312 total accidents, 47 of which caused an injury. There were zero fatal accidents.
The state police arrested 42 people for driving under the influence.
Additionally, the state police issued 1559 speeding tickets, 297 seat-belt tickets, and 3841 tickets for other hazardous moving violations, such as using a cell phone while driving or changing lanes unsafely.
Comparing the results of this year’s holiday operation to last year’s shows a decrease across all fronts. In 2013 there were 370 accidents, 55 of which caused an injury. There were also zero fatal accidents last year. In 2013 there were 65 arrests for driving under the influence, and state police issued 2,491 speeding tickets and 5,737 other hazardous moving violation tickets.
There were also a number of breakdowns on the road for those traveling in New England. AAA reports that the company’s Roadside Rescue Team received almost 3,600 calls for emergency road service. In Hartford, Middlesex, New London, Tolland and Windham counties alone there were 1,597 calls for tows, 751 calls for a jump start or for battery service, 472 calls for flat tires, 522 calls for people locked out of their cars, an additional 246 calls for other services, such as cars that ran out of gas.
