WEST HARTFORD — A Brace Road resident who returned home Friday to find two men burglarizing his house chased the suspects down and managed to detain one of them until officers arrived, police said.

The second suspect was found hiding in a nearby construction zone, police said. Both were arrested.

Christopher Colby, 29, and Roberto Colon, 43, were each charged with first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, third-degree larceny and three counts of conspiracy, police said. Colon was also charged with third-degree trespassing.

According to police, the homeowner at 107 Brace Road returned home late Friday night to find the front door kicked in and two men in the process of burglarizing the house. The suspects fled the home, running east on Brace Road, and the homeowner began to chase them while calling the police.

The homeowner tackled one of the suspects near the corner of Brace Road and Dale Street, police said. Responding officers took the suspect into custody and began a search for the second, who was located in the construction zone behind 11 South Main Street.

Both suspects were in possession of property stolen from the Brace Road home, police said.

Colby’s girlfriend was also found in the area but was not arrested, police said. All three are homeless, according to police.

Colby and Colon were held on $250,000 bail each, police said.
