The Orange Police Department regrets to report that one of its own died in the line of duty.

The Police K-9’s name was Major, and he was aiding his handler, Officer Chris brown, at the scene of a disabled vehicle when he was struck and killed by a commercial truck.

The accident occurred on Route 34, near Sodom Lane.

The driver of the truck pulled over immediately, and no charges are expected to be filed.

Major was nearly 2-years-old and had recently graduated from the Connecticut State Police 166th Patrol Dog Class. He was part of numerous tracks in his shot career, and Chief Robert Gange said of the incident, “Our entire department is deeply saddened by this sudden and tragic accident. Officer Brown and K-9 Major made a great team and we are all concentrating on giving Chris our full support at this difficult time.”

Brown was uninjured.
