UPDATE: The Connecticut State Police Troop H has released a statement on the incident. Master Sgt. William Kittle, an on-duty state trooper, pulled over into the right shoulder on the Exit 23 entrance ram to I-91 southbound just after 8:30 a.m. this morning. He pulled in front of a disabled vehicle that was parked in the shoulder to offer assistance.

Joanne Scanlon was then travelling on the entrance ramp and began veering right when she sharply pulled to the left to correct her vehicle’s course. She lost control of her vehicle and hit the trooper’s car. Her car then ricocheted off the trooper car and rolled onto its driver side.

Both Kittle and Scanlon were transported to Hartford Hospital. Kittle had lacerations on his head and face, and his back and neck were injured as well. Scanlon’s neck and back were also in pain after the accident. Both cars sustained damage and were towed.

The incident is under investigation.
