A man who was wanted for a murder that occurred in May in Norwalk was apprehended this morning in South Carolina.
A six-week long joint operation between the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office led officers to find Vamond Arqui Elmore, 37, at a Southern Inn II hotel in St. George at 11:15 this morning.
Officers found Elmore leaving his hotel room and attempting to rapidly walk away while holding a pistol. He did not drop the gun, as commanded, and when he turned toward the officers they shot and he sustained gunshot wounds. He was transferred to MUSC Hospital.
Elmore was charged with murder, criminal possession of a pistol, criminal use of a firearm, theft of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.
He was also charged with violation of his federal supervised release in connection to a June 2005 federal conviction for unlawful possession of a weapon and ammunition by a convicted felon.
