NEW HAVEN — Police in the Elm City are warning residents to double check any mounted air conditioner units for security.

The reminder comes after an early morning home invasion on Whittlesey Street in which three young men, possibly teenagers, entered into a home through an A/C unit that was pulled out of its window.

The robbers pistol-whipped a resident and made off with belongings and electronics worth thousands of dollars.

“When you put an air conditioner or even a fan into a window you need to make sure that window is as locked as it would be as it would be if that air conditioner weren’t in there,” said Officer David Hartman, media liaison for the New Haven Police Department. “It really doesn’t take much for someone to jiggle that around, to pull that out, and get in.”

Police are looking for three suspects, possibly older teenagers. Anyone with any information is asked to contact New Haven Police.
