A man was arrested in New York today on charges that he sexually assaulted and impregnated a 12-year-old acquaintance.
The girl went to her mother on July 17 complaining of cramps, and a doctor examination determined she was pregnant. The doctor notified DCF, but the girl did not want to disclose more information.
The next day the girl went to Queens, New York to visit family, and she told a relative that Leonel Bartolo Rodriguez, 39, had sexually abused her on several occasions and that he was who impregnated her. The relative alerted police, who took Rodriguez into custody. He was held on an investigative detention for 48 hours while the Stamford Police Department investigated the situation.
After Stamford police interviewed the girl, her mother and relative the department was awarded several search warrants, which led the department to apply for an arrest warrant for Rodriguez on July 19.
Rodriguez was charged with sexual assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on $100,000 cash bond, and was sent to Bridgeport Correctional today after he was arraigned.
