Severe weather struck the state hard on Sunday in certain pockets of Connecticut.
The National Weather Service confirms an EF-0 tornado touched down in Wolcott around 12:50pm.
The ominous storm clouds and funnel-like patterns were caught on camera by some Fox CT viewers who said “we’d better call 911” as one drove and the other filmed the apparent funnel clouds.
“The pictures looked like a tornado… but the weather didn’t feel like a tornado,” said Kristen Laliberte, who went to Wolcott High School years ago.
She was back in town just visiting.
Kristen said she lives in Ohio now – a place where she’d expect to see tornadoes more-so than Connecticut.
The Wolcott twister left batting cages upended, the outfield fence knocked down and trash cans completely flipped.
Meanwhile, the second round of damage came after 6:00 in the north-central slab of the state.
A home on Prospect St. in Enfield’s Thompsonvile section caught fire after lightning struck the second floor.
Fire Captain Keith Poliszka told Fox CT it took 35 firefighters about 40 minutes to put out the fire.
Ultimately it left six residents from the multi-family home displaced and two people were hurt.
Captain Poliszka confirms it was lightnight that caused the fire, starting on the second floor and spreading to the third floor attic.
The red cross is helping those families.
Linda Darling was an eyewitness to the lightning strike.
“I didn’t know where it hit but I knew it hit something. It was just amazing, it was like the loudest I’ve ever heard. It was unreal.”
