Gellatly In Court On Murder Charges

The Oxford man accused of murdering his wife, Lori Gellatly, and seriously injuring his mother-in-law back on May 7th is due in court today for his pretrial hearing.
Scott Gellatly will be in Milford court, answering to a slew of charges.

Gellatly is accused of murder, attempt to commit murder, assault, home invasion, burglary and robbery, all of which are felony offenses. He’s also facing two misdemeanor charges for assault and disorderly conduct, stemming from an argument that he and Lori had on April 1.

Gellatly is pleading not guilty to all charges.

Lori Gellatly had filed for a temporary restraining order after the April 1 incident, saying she feared for her safety and her children’s safety.

Scott Gellatly was ordered to stay away from them, and a permanent restraining order hearing was scheduled, but it came too late.

On the morning of May 7, police said Scott Gellatly forced his way inside Lori’s parents home, where Lori was staying. Lori called 9-1-1 to say he was breaking in, but when police arrived, they found both Lori and her mother shot. Lori later died at the hospital.

Gellatly, police said, had fled in Lori’s car, prompting a six-hour manhunt while police up and down the East Coast were on alert and area schools were on lockdown.
He was eventually arrested and held on $2-million bond.

Some advocates say a loophole in Connecticut law may be partly to blame for all this. Connecticut restraining orders prohibit the possession and purchase of guns. This, however, doesn’t apply to temporary restraining orders, like the one Lori Gellatly had against her husband.

Senator Richard Blumenthal is working on legislation to close that loophole.
