There are impostors pretending to work for the water department in Waterbury.

Mayor Neil O’Leary announced on Twitter that The Bureau of Water said the impostors tried to gain access to a home last night under the guise of being employees of the department.

The mayor also tweeted that employees who do work for the water department have specific water department IDs that they carry and that they drive vehicles marked with the bureau’s logo and that have municipal license plates. Also, employees don’t do cash transactions at customers’ homes.

O’Leary says if you have concerns about the identity of someone claiming to be a utility worker you should cal 203-574-8251.
