Local police departments and communities across Connecticut are hosting "National Night Out" events Tuesday night.

Nearly 40 million people attend the annual events which are designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and strengthen bonds between police departments and communities, according to the National Association of Town Watch website.

Here are some of the local towns and cities participating this year.


Hamden:
4-8 p.m.
Rochford Field
533 Newhall St.

 

Hartford:
5 p.m.
Pope Park and other various locations

 

Wethersfield:
6-8 p.m.
Millwoods Park

 

New Britain:
5 p.m.
Two locations: Willow Street Park and Walnut Hill Park

  • Willow Street Park Events:
    • Bicycle Safety Demonstration.
    • New Britain Police SWAT Vehicle– “touch a truck” demonstration.
    • New Britain Police Traffic Safety Demonstration.
    • PAL Raiders Football Information Booth.
    • Cook-out with Hotdogs, Hamburgers, Snacks, and Ice Cream.
    • New Britain Fire Department Demonstration.
    •  New Britain EMS Demonstration.
    • North/Oak Street NRZ
    •  DJ music/entertainment.
  • Walnut Hill Park Events:
    •  5:30pm- Physical Fitness for Kids Event.
    •  6:00pm- Bicycle Safety Event.
    •  New Britain Fire Department Smoke Trailer Demonstration.
    •  Berlin Police Department Car Crash Simulator.
    •  New Britain Police Motorcycle Demonstration.
    •  New Britain EMS Child Safety Seat Installation.
    •  CCSU Drunk Goggle Demonstration.
    •  New Britain Police SWAT Vehicle– “touch a truck” demonstration.
    •  New Britain Park and Rec Bounce Houses.
