Fire officials are investigating a two-alarm house fire at 19 Squaw Rock Road in
Killingly.

A person driving by reported the fire just after 5 a.m. Wednesday.

No one was inside the home when the fire started. The homeowner told Fox CT
they were in the process of moving. The family of four had lived at the home for 18
years.

"We just came down to see it and make sure we could save our animals and get
everybody out but it's too late, there's nothing we could do," said homeowner Gary
Bergstrom.

Firefighters were able to rescue dogs inside the home. Several cats remain unaccounted
for. Bergstrom hopes they were able to escape on their own.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Killingly
Fire Marshal's Office will take over the investigation.

At one point 15 engines from 10 different fire departments responded to the scene
to put out the flames.
