A female employee of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was assaulted when walking to her car from her office.
The Hartford Police Department is investigating the incident.
The assault occurred behind a church near Clinton Street, and the office the woman was walking from is located at 79 Elm St.
People who were walking on the street and saw the assault occurring intervened, and a suspect is in custody.
The office is offering employees a security officer escort to their vehicle if they ask.
