TripAdvisor And Uber Team Up

TripAdvisor has a new feature coming to its smartphone app and mobile website: the ability to reserve a ride with Uber to restaurants, attractions and hotels in more than 40 cities worldwide.

When customers use the app or website to look at listings, an estimated Uber fare and wait time will pop up, and a button saying “ride there with Uber” will be available to take customers to the Uber app or mobile website to finish making a reservation.

TripAdvisor is one of the first third parties to integrate Uber’s new public API into its system, according to a press release issued by TripAdvisor.

Users won’t be charged for just looking at fares and wait times; only once a ride is taken will the user be charged.

The new integration helps put “requesting an Uber in context, right inside the TripAdvisor app,” according to a statement from Jeff Holden, the chief product officer at Uber. “That’s a big deal, because it saves people time and simplifies their lives:  instead of having to exit the TripAdvisor app, run the Uber app and enter the destination address, your Uber is on its way with just a tap, ready to whisk you off to the venue you were looking at.”
