Hartford Gun Buyback Program Includes Trauma Centers

On Saturday, August 23, police in Hartford collected guns in hopes of getting them off the streets. Gift cards were given out in exchange for working firearms.

A total of 12 working firearms (3 pistols, 6 revolvers, 2 shotguns, and 1 rifle) were turned in, along with 3 realistic facsimile pistols.

People were able to drop off their guns Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Pope Park Arroyo Center (formerly the Pope Park Rec Center).

People who turned in handguns received $200, while shotguns and rifles received $50.

Guns from other towns were accepted, but gift card exchange was only for Hartford Residents, according to Hartford Police.

Similar events have proven successful in several other Connecticut cities.
