The newly expanded Walmart in Manchester is finally ready to open.
The store, located at 420 Buckland Hills Dr., will be 30,000 square feet larger than before, for a total of 150,000 square feet. The location has expand its staff as well–an additional 80 jobs were added for a total of about 300.
Store manager Ray Mercado said in a press release, “This store was the first Walmart built in Connecticut. We are excited to be able to better serve our customers with this expansion and provide them with a convenient location to pick up fresh produce and more.”
Mercado has been a Walmart employee since 1994, when he started as an hourly department manager.
The new store officially opens Wednesday, August 27 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. At the ceremony Walmart and the Walmart foundation will present $10,000 in grants to local community groups.
A second celebration will be held Saturday, August 30 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. so that shoppers can meet Mercado, try free food samples and enjoy family activities.
The store’s official hours will be 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
