A child was expelled from preschool because a message his mother posted on Facebook.

Ashley Habat told News4Jax in Florida that she was late bringing her son, Will, to Sonshine Christain Academy, which is located in Callahan, on picture day, and mentioned to the administrator who signed her son in that the school didn’t give enough notice. The administrator told her they had sent a note home with Will the previous week.

Habat says she wrote about the incident on Facebook and tagged the school, but she has her Facebook profile set to private so that only friends can see what she posts. She never thought the message would get back to the school.

Why is it that every single day there is something new I dislikes [sic] about Will’s school? Are my standards really too high or are people working in the education field really just that ignorant?

The next day the school called her into the office and gave her a letter expelling her son. The reasoning stated her relationship with the school got off to a bad start from the first day, and the school was not happy that she insulted the intelligence of the staff on social media.

According to News4Jax, the school further said in the letter of dismissal that her actions “are also consistent with showing discord which is spoken of in the handbook [she] signed.”

Habat maintains her son did nothing wrong, and he shouldn’t have been punished for her actions on her private social media page.
