Update: Police arrested Shota Mekoshvili, 29, of Stamford after a foot chase on Grey Rock Place. At the time of the arrest, police said he had wounds consistent with a struggle that occurred at the murder scene. Mekoshvili was treated and released from Stamford Hospital.

Mekoshvili was charged with first degree murder and held on a $1,000,000 bond. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on Thursday. Police said Mekoshvili  a citizen of the Georgian Republic and is in the U.S. on a Visa. Police said they notified ICE  to determine his immigration status.

Stamford Police have a suspect in custody in the death of a man who was found stabbed near a taxi cab, police said.

Mahomed Kamal, 47, was found dead Wednesday morning near a cab crashed in the woods near 150 Doolittle Rd.

Stamford Police announced that they had a suspect in custody on the department Facebook page late Wednesday night.

The incident was reported at 8:30 a.m. Police found Kamal on the lawn of the home, and the taxi "impaled" in the woods off the roadway. He was stabbed multiple times in his torso. Police believe a violent struggle took place both inside and outside the cab that lead to Kamal's death. The weapon has not been found.
