An investigation into the ransacking of a Watertown home has led to the arrest of two men, one of whom was employed as the property’s landscaper, on larceny and identity theft charges.

Police were called to a home on Cutler Knoll in Watertown on August 6th. The home had been ransacked and a large amount of jewelry, cash, credit cards and the homeowners vehicle had been stolen.

Investigators said they reviewed video footage from the stores where the stolen card was used and were able to identify two suspects, one of whom who worked on the property and did not have authorization to be in the house, as a suspect.

After showing photos of the stolen jewelry to local pawn shops, police said they identified one of the suspects, Luis Ortiz, 23, of Waterbury. They recovered the homeowner’s vehicle near where Ortiz lived.

Police also said they identified Christian Rivera, 23 , of Waterbury as a second suspect. Rivera was employed as a landscaper on the property. Rivera turned himself in after learning there was a warrant issued for his arrest.

Ortiz and Rivera were charged with larceny and identity theft charges. Rivera was also arrested on burglary charges.
They are being held on bond and will appear in Waterbury court on Tuesday.
