UPDATE: Sgt. David Tammaro, the community outreach public information officer for the West Haven Police Department, sent out a press release identifying the victim as Alejandro Zitlalpopoca, 16, of West Haven. Zitlalpopoca’s body was found at 7:18 p.m. Sunday 30 yards off shore in five-foot deep water.

His body has been transported to the chief medical examiner for a cause of death determination.

The U.S. Coast Guard from the New Haven station searched for the 16-year-old male swimmer off Bradley Point Beach in West Haven.

The incident happened near Captain Thomas Boulevard, and the Coast Guard's command center set up at the beach.

The Coast Guard used a 45-foot boat to search for the man. The West Haven Police Department and Fire Department were also involved, and two vessels from the New Haven Fire Department were part of the search team. In addition, the Coast Guard Air Station from Cape Cod, the Milford Fire Department Dive Team and good Samaritan vessels assisted in the search.
