More than 100 people stood at 31 Prospect St. in Enfield on Thursday night to remember, Jonathan Torres, the teen shot to death the night before.

The 19 year old was memorialized with prayer and condolences from The Reverend Henry Brown and Pastor Sam Saylor of Hartford, two men who've witnessed their own share of gun violence.

They led a prayer vigil in front of the teen's home, drawing dozens of participants closer and closer to the steps of the house.

As darkness descended on the street, those close to Torres lit candles, lining his front yard with light.

"I've been friends with his mother for years. Since she was a baby herself and this is senseless and it needs to stop," said Dolores Nicholson.

Kids, teens and adults all made up the crowd.

It was a group that seemed poised to burst with energy, perhaps looking for their emotions to be steered in the right direction.

The religious leaders attempted to do just that.

While at times, one might say the preachers were speaking "to the choir" and not the culprits, Jonathan's cousin, said the vigil was valuable.

"It shows that he was loved. There's a lot of people here and it's good to see that Jonathan was loved and even though he's in God's Kingdom right now, he knows that he's loved... This is great, this is really great," said Tom Torres.

Jonathan's father, was nearly speechless.

"There's nothing else we can do for him. He's gone. I'm sure he's up there. Looking at us."
